MGO measures the direct methylglyoxal concentration (mg/kg). UMF is a broader quality standard incorporating additional markers of authentic New Zealand manuka origin and bioactivity. Both systems confirm genuine manuka — they just measure different but related things.
Yes. MGO100 / UMF 5+ is Hab Shifa's everyday manuka grade — ideal as a daily spread, honey drink or cooking ingredient. Save higher MGO grades for more targeted wellness use.
The honey is independently certified to MGO100 / UMF 5+ standards — both of which require authentic New Zealand origin and verified methylglyoxal content.
Not to infants under 12 months — honey poses botulism risk in this age group. For children over 12 months, small amounts are generally safe.
Yes. Heat above approximately 40°C can degrade methylglyoxal activity. Add to warm (not boiling) water and avoid using in high-heat cooking applications if preserving MGO activity is a priority.
MGO100 is the entry-level everyday tier. MGO515 (UMF 15+) and MGO850 (UMF 20+) contain significantly higher methylglyoxal concentrations and are typically used for more targeted or intensive wellness applications.
New Zealand manuka has a distinctive earthy, herbal flavour profile with a slightly bitter note — different from standard floral honeys. The flavour is more complex and less sweet-forward than regular honey.
Please check the product label for processing details. Genuine manuka honey is typically minimally processed to preserve MGO activity.
